I just finished my first computer graphics project!

We had to build >4 robots and arrange them in a semicircle. Also, their left arms move when you press the ‘t’ key (it toggles between straight down and at a 45 degree angle).
It was fun, but so much linear algebra. If you don’t do things in exactly the right order, you lose a cylinder, or it gets distorted. o_o
So I finally got a Pottermore account.
I got sorted into Gryffindor. I’m a little conflicted about that; Gryffindor is the house I least thought I’d get sorted into.
I’m more content with my wand, though. It’s Pear wood, 14.5 inches with a Unicorn hair core.
From the website on pear wood:
This golden-toned wood produces wands of splendid magical powers, which give of their best in the hands of the warm-hearted, the generous and the wise. Possessors of pear wands are, in my experience, usually popular and well-respected. I do not know of a single instance where a pear wand has been discovered in the possession of a Dark witch or wizard. Pear wands are among the most resilient, and I have often observed that they may still present a remarkable appearance of newness, even after many years of hard use.
Also, wands with a unicorn hair core are least likely to be used for Dark Arts. So, basically, I’m never going to be evil.
It would be interesting to see the mechanics of how the two quizzes work, though.
Life update
Back from the Jesuit Candidates’ weekend
It was nice to get a bit of an inside look at the novitiate. Lots of interesting talks with the novices and the other candidates, lots of good information to think about. I will definitely need to continue looking at the Society of Jesus.
Some highlights:
- Tour of LA, including the cathedral, Homeboy Industries (we just drove by, since it was closed), and Dolores Mission parish.
- Scullery duty. As odd as it sounds, I enjoyed just cleaning up and working with the novices and candidates
- Talks with the novices. All of them were very welcoming, and open and honest about their experiences.
On another interesting note, also on the retreat were the roommate of a classmate of mine, and my friend’s brother.
Next up on my discernment path: personal visit to the west coast Dominicans in about a month.
Just had lunch with the Jesuit vocations director
I’ve been meaning to meet up with him for a while now, but finally had a chance. I’m also signed up for a candidates weekend with the Jesuits this Presidents’ Day weekend.
And so the discernment continues. I’ll post more when I’ve had a chance to think a bit about what we talked about. =)
Blah
Longest two and a half weeks of school ever. And it’s not even midterms week. Lots of class, homework, meetings, errands. Most days I don’t get back home until after 10pm. And yet, despite all of that, life is still good.
A few highlights from the past few weeks:
-Choir concert this past Saturday. Went much better than I thought it would, but that usually happens. Joan tried to give me a solo at the last minute because it’s my last concert, but thankfully that didn’t happen.
-Catchups with a number of people I hadn’t gotten to talk with in a while.
-Starting the process of choosing new student leaders for next year (although we really just get the word out, the staff chooses the new leaders).
-I’m really loving taking Spanish. I’m really a language geek. I’m also progressing (albeit much more slowly) in teaching myself Chinese.
-Our RCIA group gained a person, but also lost my (potential) godbrother. He just wasn’t ready to continue on. Please pray for him and his journey! We also gained two people who couldn’t make it to the normal confirmation meetings. We now have 5 people coming =D
-Started (and finished) the first season of Sherlock. Such a good show =D
Hopefully I’ll be able to post a couple of reflections I’ve been mulling over (once I have time to think).
