definitionofbrotherhood: mystagogy: You never know what to expect of prayer, especially when praying with a large group, and most especially when that prayer involves Mass. I was at Mass today at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe . The chapel was packed. The Shrine was hosting a…

Catholic terms in Chinese
I’m trying to teach myself Mandarin Chinese. Being the religious nerd that I am, I thought I’d look up a bunch of useful Catholic terms, using a combination of Google Translate, the English and Chinese Wikipedias, and the English Wiktionary. This is the fruit of my labours (in traditional characters and pinyin). Some of the terms (especially the names near the end) are specifically...

It is impossible...
simplyorthodox: “Tell me, can a soul occupied with the merriment’s of this age, feel this joy? It seems to me that as man cannot serve both God and mammon, so too is it impossible for one occupied with temporal delights to feel spiritual joy in God.” -St. Theodore of Sanaxar

It's Offical, the Pope to Canonize the first... →
ephremhiphop: Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha is set to be canonized by the Pope with several other saints. Here you can read the story about the boy who was healed of a flesh eating bacteria. Kateri was a Mohawk-Algonguian living near New York between 1656 and 1680. Kateri was adopted the Village Chief, who was her uncle, when her family was wiped out in a smallpox outbreak. As the Chief’s adopted...

I went to a morning Mass today
for the second Sunday in a row. I’m slowly becoming a morning person. Slowly. This is maybe the sixth or seventh time I’ve been to Mass in the morning in my two years of being Catholic. I have to say it’s kinda growing on me. At least I don’t have to wait all day before I receive holy Eucharist.

Let us glorify the Lord
simplyorthodox: Then let us, brothers, glorify the Lord Who has appeared, rejoice! in His Nativity! Nothing will take this joy away from us, — neither poverty, nor offences, nor labour day and night: He has blessed all this, and magnified it, and sanctified it with Himself in the town of Bethlehem. Let us draw instruction from here, and to Him, Who has loved us, glory and honour, power and...
